Scouting Report:
When we arrived the night before, my sister was waiting for us we got our stuff in, and from there we proceeded to have some food, my sister got us a local pizza joint that is well renowned for our first meal back in town, as we drove up were surprised by how much had grown in four years. We confirmed this and told of many locations that had changed or are no longer around. With all this said we retired for the night as mentioned in the last post.
Brewing the future:
During that talk, we learned of a few coffee joints that had surprisingly sprung up over the years. The next morning, I looked up local coffee joints on Google and found one that looked very close and local. With a punny name and location found, we drove over mid-morning and found the place packed; that is usually a good sign of things. We looked over the menu got some lattes and bagels and from there we were hooked. I can say with confidence since we’ve been back it has been a once if not twice weekly visited location. They also provide their coffee to be ground at home as we quickly learned with a crash course education provided by one of the workers.
Along with that, we found some places we enjoyed when we were in Texas had seemed to make their way here. We found several restaurants we enjoyed had established stores nearby, along with the tired and true standards we were accustomed to here before we left. We found some future money pits in the form of nearby places that cater to our interests. It’s nice to see that as it has grown, it seems to of thrived with us even when away.
Mending fences:
A reason we had left in the first place is a falling out with my family, I won’t go into detail about why and what happened but we just did not see eye to eye on things and as a result, we opted to move to a new place and attempt to start anew. When we decided to come back we were talking with my sister and over the last few weeks I feel we have been slowly feeling one another out. In her defense, she was on our side during the fallout situation. Still, scars take time to heal and we have been finding living together to be surprisingly smooth. We’re all learning to live with one another and our pets are blending well. In some ways maybe too well, but I think little Rouge got her middle name in this period as I jokingly compared her to the pro wrestler Darby Allin as she was going up against dogs double her size and holding her own, even enjoying it. So I guess with that, we have Rouge Darby BLANK.
As for being civil with one another, we have also seemed to get that well, it’s been pretty laid back and welcoming from them. I’m surprised at how welcomed we have been in fact. My nephew invited us all to his place for Christmas and made sure we felt welcomed and invited into his and his wife’s home. Oddly, it almost felt like we had never left. That is a testament to the kind of welcome we’ve gotten from them.
Working days are here again:
Sadly as life goes on, so must the money and while my wife already had her job planned out I was a bit of a risk-taker. I tried to transfer to a local branch of the company I worked for but sadly no one was hiring. So, I had no choice but to leap with no net, as of Christmas Eve, I was unemployed officially as I used up what was left of my vacation time to pad my trip out here. Ili got her job started that week and commented on the sheer night and day difference of how the stores she worked in were. We also managed to freak out her now boss by just appearing out of thin air and seeing him getting carts. For a man I could never read, I think it was the first time I saw visible surprise on his face upon seeing us.
As for me, I applied the old tactic of throwing everything at a wall until it sticks. It’s an old tired and true job-hunting tactic that can have a success rate of anywhere from 2 days to six months. This time I am happy to report it was closer to two weeks as of this writing as I was offered a job this morning at an interview and will be starting next week. It will most likely be temporary, but at this point, a foot in the door is a foot in the door.
Moving towards the future:
So, that covers all of the adventures of the Texedus, from here on I am looking forward, we have a lot of things still to work on. But, they are small and also should be resolved soon. In some ways, it has been nice to move forward into the new year in a newish local. As far as projects under Magic Ninja Robot, they never really stopped, we’re gearing up for Act 2 of Dominant Ones, the podcast will be back soon and other things we usually do will slowly be folded back in. I need to find a new comic shop and also pay down some debts and hopefully this time next year I’ll be posting from my place once more.
It has been a long road to get to where I am right now, and I like to think I have grown a bit in the course of the struggles. I left behind some people I now consider friends down in Texas and hope to keep in touch with. I also have to now mend fences and repair some other ones that I let fall away or life put on hold. In some ways, I have red in the ledger as it were. Though sitting here now, I don’t think I have as much as I thought I did at first. We’re waiting for the first real snow we’ve seen here, it’ll be interesting to see how the pup reacts to the snow.
So that ends the Texedus, thank you everyone for reading this account and we’ll be in touch very soon here on the desk. From us to you Happy New Year, and good luck into the future.

Loved both part 1 and 2 of this tale. I know it was tiring and stressful. Glad to hear you both made it safe and sound and good luck for your new chapter
