Well if you have not noticed in the world, we got a lot of things that changed in the last week. While we probably will be saying a lot of things in the podcast about them. These are going to be some fun times we all know, and there will be some changes as to how MNR distributes its information and where we do some things. So the following is what we are doing and our reasons behind them.
I just want to take a moment before we start and say this: These are our choices, and while we may not condone what these places have done or maybe now stand for. We don’t feel it is fair for you the reader or viewer to have to lock step with us. If you wish to continue to use these products or sites that is your choice. I am sharing this information on our end to explain why we feel what we do. You have the choice to do the same, but we try to be transparent about these decisions.
1. We will no longer be streaming on Twitch
This was not an easy decision we made we have been wrestling with this for a bit now for many reasons. There is a straw that broke the back which we will get to but it was not just one thing that has led to this decision. The real main reasons are as follows:
A. We had a lot and I mean A LOT of issues streaming the ½ assed show podcast, in fact, one of the reasons we began to use the Desk of Chaos Substack was because we wanted people to be able to enjoy it even if we were having technical issues. We would have random ups and downs in our speed which caused us to slow down or even not be able to do anything. Along with long pauses because myself or Ili would be waiting for the other to finish on our end of the conversation. This was causing a slowdown and frustrating us (and by us, I mean well...me).
B. We were not streaming as much as we used to: Granted we shrunk down from four to two so there was going to be a slowdown, and we were not going to be streaming nearly as much as we used to. But as time has gone on, especially with what I mentioned above we began to do it less and less. The result was that we were only doing the podcast and that was it. That is more personal reasons than anything. Also, throw in intermittent power outages and hurricanes over the summer and some intense periods where we were just not feeling it.
C. Jeff Bezos’s decision to withhold an endorsement: Yeah it’s also somewhat political, and we also let our prime subscription lapse as a partial result of this. Speaking for myself and not Ili, I don’t want to be on a platform where the owner does stuff like that. This one was the last straw.
Those are the main reasons why we are no longer comfortable with streaming on Twitch, we will be now shifting over to YouTube for game streams and podcasts. The podcast will still be going up Sunday mornings here on the desk, the live recording will just now be done on YouTube instead of Twitch. I know a lot of people will view this as sort of a step backward because Twitch is the home of live streaming. I can’t even keep a stable connection when I play a game on the platform which makes me more angry and less focused on the games. We want to give you our best foot forward when we stream. While I know people have issues with Google, I see no value in going over to Kick or Rumble as they don’t align with personal ethics (and pretty sure based on my research exist in a country that may just literally be made for tax shelters).
2. We are no longer on X (formerly Twitter)
I have hated, hated, hated using the letter X for this service as everyone still calls it Twitter. I was not even a big fan of the original Twitter, to be honest. But, we were working on this project, and sadly at the time we had to go to the biggest name on the planet for social media. Also, I don’t like anything Meta does.
So, the fact I am now just calling it X should speak volumes about what has changed. In the last seventy-two hours (as of this writing anyway) it has spiraled out of control into a cesspool of hate and bigotry, that somehow got worse. Add to this the new terms that allow AI to be trained on posts from the site and all the bots that populate the site. It just adds up into a titanic of garbage, so while we have been saying we no longer posted there we were of course looking around. That changed quickly on Wednesday, and we both deleted the apps from everything we had attached to it. We moved on to the punk rock and pop music platforms. But we as people cannot stand by and be a part of that train wreck anymore.
Those are the changes we have in store for how we communicate to our audience, as always everyone is welcome to follow us on the places we are on and interact with us. If not we also understand and thank you for supporting us. These are choices we made and agreed with one another on. We know not all will agree with us or have a different opinion and those are valued, Thank you for taking the time to read this and we’ll see you on the podcast, or the streams, or whatever we do.
